NGC 2170: the celestial still life
In this beautiful celestial still life composed with a cosmic brush, dusty nebula NGC 2170 shines near the image center. Next to NGC 2170, reflecting light near hot stars, on the background of colored stars are other blue reflection nebulae, a red emission region, and many dark nebulae. As well as the usual household items that artists often portrayed in the still lifes shown here are hot stars and clouds of gas and dust often found in the environment – the massive molecular cloud in the constellation Monoceros, where star formation occurs. A huge cloud of molecular Mon R2 is quite close to us, the distance to it – only about 2400 light years. At that distance, this canvas for painting should have a size of more than 40 light years.
